Wrong Way Driver Injures Border Patrol Agent
In Chula Vista a Border Patrol agent was sent to the hospital Monday night with life-threatening injuries. He was hit by a vehicle going the wrong way.
Gregory Cabral, 46, was driving the 1998 Geo Metro that hit the agent whose name has not been released. Mark Endicott, a Border Patrol spokesman told reporters that the agent hit was off duty. The agent was riding his motorcycle and was on his way in to work.
Cabral was heading west on the eastbound lane of Route 905 a little after 11:30 pm.
Police officers chased after Cabral and finally got to him on I-5 near Coronado Avenue. Police reported that while chasing him he was speeding pretty fast and almost collided with some cars. The police tried to get him to pull over. They drove right next to him with sirens and lights going off, but to no avail.
They hoped that the lights and sirens would warn other cars sharing the road with the reckless driver. Cabral drove about three miles north on the southbound lanes of I-5.
Cabral was arrested and taken into custody. His charges include attempted murder, felony driving under the influence and assault with a deadly weapon.
