Nine people were arrested and 42 vehicles were impounded at sobriety checkpoints in Vista and Solana Beach last night and early today.

Most of the enforcement actions occurred at a checkpoint at 1040 E. Vista Way, where 340 vehicles were randomly checked.

Eight people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, and another person, who was under that age of 21, was ticketed for consuming any quantity of alcohol before driving. A total of 38 vehicles were impounded when drivers were found to have suspended or no license, or after they had been arrested.

Seventy-five citations were issued for driving without insurance coverage and other violations.

At the Solana Beach checkpoint, 339 vehicles were randomly checked, with one motorist arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Citations were issued to four drivers and four vehicles were impounded.

The checkpoints were manned by San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies, with assistance from the California Highway Patrol.
