Make Train Travel Safer – After the Metrolink Train Accident
Sept. 21 : Opinion : Ventura County Star It is time for all to rally together, especially those who commute by train. We need to awaken to the reality about rail travel in Southern California.
The Sept. 12 accident on the Metrolink train should never have happened. But to blame this on a particular individual, or a series of events or procedures that should or should not have taken place is irresponsible and nothing more than an attempt to speed up closure and relieve ourselves of any guilt we deserve to bear.
There are commuter rail systems in this country and around the world that put California’s system to shame. But, when there is no demand for such a system, there will not be such a system.
That there are not double tracks that would prevent two trains from having to travel on the same track in opposite directions is unacceptable, not just for safety reasons, but the hours wasted.
