He left to go hiking alone in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains near Bishop. The area that he was hiking has been described as hazardous and quite uneven by local officials from the Inyo County sheriff’s office.
Search teams with dogs as well as an aircraft combed the area of John Muir Wilderness and Kings Canyon National Park for seven days but to no avail. Last Saturday was the last day the search parties went out.
A male body was found just east of Bishop Pass which is in the vicinity of where DeVan was hiking. The Inyou County Sheriff’s Department has not confirmed the identity of the body found.
