78-year-old Woman Arrested on Suspicion of DUI
An older woman was arrested for a suspected DUI in Oceanside Monday morning around 2:30 a.m. The 78-year-old crashed into a police car while driving south on South Coast Highway near Michigan Avenue. The police car was heading north on the same road so when she made a left turn she ended up in the path of the oncoming police car.
She needed to yield to the police that was coming but she did not wait which caused her to crash into the oncoming police car.
Both cars were damaged in the accident. This included the woman’s 2004 Toyota Camry which was damaged in the front end.
The woman failed to yield the right of way to the officer before turning, according to police. The crash caused major front-end damage to her 2004 Toyota Camry and the patrol car.
Both the officer and the woman had some minor injuries which they were taken to the hospital for treatment Officers who were on the scene to investigate the accident state that the woman displayed behavior consistent with someone who had been drinking alcohol.
